About Wolf magazine

Wolf magazine was founded in April 2002 by James Byrne and Nicholas Cobick with an explicit focus on publishing new poets alongside more established writers.

It is now published three times a year, edited by James Byrne

The formative years of The Wolf quickly made it the leading independent poetry magazine in Britain. As Bloodaxe editor Neil Astley observed during a lecture for Stanza: 'The next [poetry magazine] to watch will be The Wolf, which has a young editorial team unafraid to ruffle feathers.

Since 2002, The Wolf has published more than 350 poets from every continent in the world.

The Wolf publishes international translations, critical prose and interviews with leading contemporary poets, which are often cited as hallmarks of the magazine.

Poetry, however, comes exclusively through the work presented. There is no ‘heap of friends’ or special treatment for consideration of any poet or poem.

Anyone can submit poetry or critical work at any time. Depending on the number of submissions you may receive a response by email within six months of submission. If for any reason you do not receive a response within this time, send a request to our main email address. The Wolf reserves the right not to respond to every communication, especially circulars and unaddressed emails.

The Wolf also aims to publish high quality artwork (again, submissions are welcome)

Known for its auspicious launches, The Wolf also goes on a poetry tour once a year. Recent touring cities have included Montreal, Boston, Paris and London. The Wolf's 2009 tour included readings from Fulcrum magazine and Concordia University, and The Wolf is grateful for the development of these literary partnerships, which allow the magazine to tour each year. (Please check the newsletter for more information).

The Wolf encourages submissions by both email and postal mail and has a purchase and subscription option which can be used via PayPal (recommended for international subscribers) or by sending individual cheques. The Wolf, like most poetry magazines, survives on subscriptions.
